Why Spitifre DST 4-Wheel is probably what you need?

When it comes to choosing a travel mobility scooter, you need to consider a lot of things. It should be durable yet portable enough to bring with you on your travels, has a great capacity that can meet your needs, and safe yet comfortable to operate.

Drive Medical knows the complex needs of patients who have limited mobility, that’s why it has designed the Spitfire DST to meet these demands. Here are the reasons why the Spitfire DST 4-wheel travel scooter is probably what you need:

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel is stable, durable, and portable

Four-wheel travel scooters are known to provide more stability as the wheels are more balanced compared to three-wheel scooters. The front and rear wheels of the Spitfire DST 4 are of the same size (8 inches diameter and 2 inches thick). To further enhance the mobility scooter’s stability when traversing upslopes and downslopes, the unit comes with anti-tip wheels.

You can disassemble the scooter into 5 transportable pieces that can fit the trunk of your car without taking up much space, making this a great scooter for people with an active lifestyle.

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel has great specifications

Although mobility scooters are basically designed for indoor use, Drive Medical has designed the Spitfire DST 4-wheel to survive outdoor conditions.

                  Overall dimension and weight

The travel scooter has 42.5" (L) x 21.25" (W) x 36" (H) dimensions, so it’s not hard to drive through narrow hallways. It weighs a total of 123 pounds with a stable base weight of 70 pounds. Like all travel scooters, the DST 4’s front section is also its heaviest piece with a weight of 43 pounds.

                  Dynamic Suspension Technology (DST)

Unlike a regular mobility scooter, the DST 4 has a Dynamic Suspension Technology (DST), hence the name. The DST coil feature in the front and rear wheels allow you to drive the scooter through any terrain. This puts the DST 4 above other scooters that are only capable of running through even and smooth pavements, although you should still proceed with caution.

                  Weight capacity, speed, and mileage

The Spitfire DST can run a maximum speed of 4.25 mph. It has an above-average load-carrying capacity as it can carry a maximum weight of 325 pounds. The additional 25 pounds of carrying capacity allows you to pack more personal items with you when using your scooter. It is also a great choice for patients who have a heavier body weight.

When fully charged, the mobility scooter can give you up to 15 miles of travel range. This makes the DST 4-wheel a perfect companion for your daily outdoor activities.

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel is safe and secure

People with limited mobility need all the safety and security that a mobility scooter can offer. The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel is engineered to provide its users with the best travel experience through the following safety and security features:

                  Anti-tip wheels

Worry no more about an unsteady climb to an upslope or a tight curve. The DST 4-wheel scooter has anti-tip wheels to solve this problem. This feature adds stability to your scooter so you won’t tip over in unexpected turns or inclines.

                  Freewheel mode

This mobility scooter has a freewheel mode that you can engage or disengaged to save battery life. Once you pull the lever up, the freewheel mode is enabled. It will unlock or disengage the gearbox so your scooter can roll freely without consuming power from your battery.

When you push the lever down, the freewheel mode is disabled, and the scooter switches to drive mode. This locks the gearbox so that your scooter won’t run unless you engage the throttle.

Users are discouraged to activate the freewheel mode when traversing a slope as you might find the scooter harder to control. It might also lead to collision and accidents. Use the freewheel mode wisely.

                  Speed dial and throttle

The scooter has a speed dial on the control panel, which you can rotate counterclockwise to achieve the slowest speed and clockwise to achieve the fastest speed of 4.25 mph. The scooter will run its maximum speed depending on what you set on the dial.

You can control the speed of acceleration and deceleration of your scooter through the throttle, which is strategically placed on either side of the control panel, within easy reach from the delta tiller.

Engage the right throttle lever by pushing it forward; the harder you push the throttle, the faster the scooter accelerates forward. If you want to go backward, simply push the left throttle lever. The harder you push, the faster the scooter will accelerate backward.

Releasing the throttle will automatically put the scooter in the neutral mode, followed by a gradual deceleration, and a complete stop.

                  Electromagnetic braking system

The DST 4-wheel comes with an electromagnetic braking system, which has two types:

                  • Regenerative brakes. Like what’s mentioned above, you can put the scooter to a complete stop by simply releasing the throttle. This will activate the regenerative brakes, which use electricity to decelerate the scooter until it comes to a complete stop.
                  • Park brakes. Once the scooter has stopped completely, the park brake mechanism locks the wheels to prevent it from rolling freely.

                  Battery indicator

The battery indicator on the control panel lights up once you turn the scooter on. It is color-coded, with each color representing how longer the scooter can go without charging:

                  • Green means the scooter is fully charged.
                  • Yellow warns you not to travel long distances.
                  • Red requires immediate charging. A completely discharged battery can decrease its lifespan and lead to battery damage.

When operating the Spitfire DST 4-wheel, never disregard the cues from the battery indicator. It helps you predict your usage to achieve a hassle-free driving experience.

                  Circuit breaker

The Spitfire DST has a circuit breaker in the battery pack, which is activated when the scooter is under a lot of strain. This mechanism safely prevents motor and electronic damage as well as an electrical fire. When the scooter trips, simply wait for 2 minutes before pushing the reset button of the circuit breaker, which you can find beneath the charge port of the battery pack.

The DST 4-wheel has a yellow horn button on the control panel, which will help to alert people of your presence when you’re in a crowded area. You can also use it to get attention and call for help when you’re in danger.

Navigating through dark hallways and dim areas is not a problem when you’re using the Spitfire DST 4, as it has a bright headlight beneath the carry basket.

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel has a great outdoor capacity

Aside from a travel range of up to 15 miles and its Dynamic Suspension Technology (DST) that allows the scooter to run through any terrain, it also has 55 inches of turning radius and a 6° climbing angle, which allows you to climb ramps and upslopes without any problem.

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel is customizable, comfortable, and stylish

                  Adjustable Delta Tiller

This travel scooter has a tiller with a wrap-around design and overall padding for comfortable and easier operation. You can also adjust the angle and height of the delta tiller until you reach a comfortable setting.

                  Carry basket

The scooter has a carry basket to house your belongings and necessities. The basket is also accessible and within reach, so you can retrieve your stuff easily.

                  Armrests, seat, and backrest

The Spitfire DST has padded, reflectorized, and adjustable armrests that you can conveniently flip up for easier mounting and dismounting. The width is also adjustable so it can comfortably fit patients of nearly any size. The seat is padded, ergonomically designed, and has an adjustable height.

The curved backrest is padded to help prevent back strain. You can also fold it down for easier storage.

                  Interchangeable shrouds

The Spitfire DST 4-wheel has interchangeable shrouds in blue and red color, allowing you to put a bit of your personality into your scooter. The unit originally comes with red shrouds installed and you have the blue shrouds as the spare. Changing the shrouds is easy and can be done without the use of special equipment as the parts snap easily into place.

The Spitfire DST 4-Wheel is a breeze to charge

With two charging options, one on the tiller and the other on the battery pack itself, you can attach the charger to wherever is convenient for you. The Spitfire DST uses gel-cell or sealed lead acid AGM batteries in compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, so you can transport your scooter on buses, planes, and trains without the fear of leakage.
